![]() After a species has been assimilated into the Swarm, it is mutated toward a different function within its hierarchy, from being a hive worker to a warrior strain. Zerg creatures are rapidly and selectively evolved into deadly and efficient killers to further the driving Zerg imperative of achieving absolute domination. The Zerg were originally commanded by and unified by their absolute obedience to the Zerg collective sentience known as the Zerg Overmind, a manifestation of this hive mind, and under the Overmind's control the Zerg strove for genetic perfection by assimilating the favorable traits of other species. Every thousand Zerg warriors killed at a cost of one Terran soldier was a net victory for the Zerg the Zerg Swarm didn't care any more about expending warriors than the Terrans cared about expending ammunition. The Swarms' organization, psychological and economic, is more like that of ants or termites: they are communal entities, a people efficiently adapted by evolution. The Zerg are a collective consciousness of a variety of different species assimilated into the Zerg genome. It was stated in an interview by Blizzard employees that the Zerg Swarm are universally feared, hated, and hunted by all the sapient species of the Milky Way. Only the strongest with the best mutations survive, and they assimilate only the strongest species into their gene pool. Zerg purposely situate themselves in harsh climates in order to further their own evolution through natural selection. Despite being a hive-minded species, the Zerg understand the principles of evolution and incorporate this into the development of their species. Zerg have two cell types at birth - one which creates random mutations, and another that hunts these mutations - the result being that any mutations that survive are the strongest of all. The tactic is infamous most experienced real-time strategy players are familiar with the tactic in one form or another. The term " Zerg Rush", or "zerging", is now commonly used to describe sacrificing economic development in favor of using many cheap, yet weak units to overwhelm an enemy by attrition or sheer numbers. Since the release of StarCraft, the Zerg have become a gaming icon, described by PC Gamer UK as "the best race in strategy history". Zerg units are designed to be cost-efficient and fast to produce, encouraging players to overwhelm their opponents with sheer numerical advantage. ![]() ![]() ![]() Despite being notoriously cunning and ruthlessly efficient, the majority of Zerg species have low intelligence, becoming mindless beasts if not connected to a "hive-cluster" or a "command entity".Īs with the other races, the Zerg are the subject of a full single-player campaign in each of the series' real-time strategy video games. Operating as a hive mind-linked "chain of command", the Zerg strive for "genetic perfection" by assimilating the unique genetic code of advanced species deemed "worthy" into their own gene pool, creating numerous variations of specialized strains of Zerg gifted with unique adaptations. Instead, they "force-evolve" genetic traits by directed mutation in order to match such technology. Unlike the fictional universe's other primary races, the Protoss and Terrans, the Zerg lack technological inclination. The Zerg are a race of insectoid aliens obsessed with assimilating other races into their swarm in pursuit of genetic perfection, and the overriding antagonists for much of the StarCraft franchise. ![]()

That said, I found that the 10-bit images from the GH5 still gave me much more control over my colors than other small form factor 8-bit cameras available today. But after trying Vlog and tweaking the colors a bit more, I also found that skin tones were not as realistic as on larger cinema cameras like the Panasonic Varicams or cameras like the Canon C300. I was impressed when I first saw GH5 10-bit footage. With the right coloring or LUT, the results looked more organic and filmic than most of what I had seen in the area of small form-factor cinema cameras that shoot 8-bit. After all, many of us have been shooting 8-bit color on most of their productions and the step up to 10-bit should make a huge difference, going from millions to 1.1 billion colors of file information. Furthermore, many were frustrated with Vlog on the GH4, so let’s try to see how the performance was improved on the new model. I was really eager to test it and expected to see silky smooth skin gradations and footage with rich color information from Vlog recordings. Currently, we’re stuck with 150mbit, which is fine too and should give us great results.īut let’s go into 10-bit color depth right away. Slightly larger sensor area than the GH4Ī firmware update later this year will bring 6K photo mode, anamorphic recording as well as internal DCI 4K 10-bit with a 400mbit all-I codec. But looking at the camera’s specs, there are other attributes to like: That the Panasonic GH5 introduces 10-bit color depth is this camera’s most interesting feature, and one that had many filmmakers (including myself) excited for the last couple of months. For the dynamic range test I use a DSC labs XYLA-21 transmissive test chart, and to measure sharpness I used a combination of a subjective chart and a huge 8K Imatest ISO chart. In the case of the Panasonic GH5, the lens was attached via EF-mount with the Metabones Speedbooster Ultra adapter, which in my experience gives me excellent optical performance. We test all cameras with the same Zeiss 50mm Cp2 macro lens (more on how we test HERE). I will also try to examine the low-light performance and take a particular look at 10-bit. In this Panasonic GH5 review, I will run the usual tests I do here at cinema5D, and invite you to check several important sensor attributes like dynamic range, sharpness and rolling shutter performance. Panasonic GH5 with a Speedboster Ultra and the Zeiss 50mm Cp2 Macro Lens We recommend that you always try and test any product for yourself and find your own conclusions based on your technical requirements before you use them. Panasonic GH5 ReviewĪfter a short delay, here is our long awaited Panasonic GH5 lab review. Here is our lab analysis, where we will evaluate all the pros and cons of the new GH5 sensor, with a focus on the new 4K 10-bit mode. It is the first of its kind to finally break the barrier towards a compact form-factor 10-bit 4K acquisition in the realm of (somewhat) large sensor cameras. The Panasonic GH5 is one of the most highly-anticipated compact cinema cameras of the year. Whereas a 1 x 6 plank at 12 feet would set you back $56 at the premium tier, the same board in Beach Dune from the Enhance Basic line is around $22. As you might expect, the Trex Select price is cheaper as the same size boards are roughly $10 – 15 less depending on the shop. A 20 foot 2 x 6-inch plank is close to double at $100 and covers 9 square feet. Pricing on Trex Transcend starts at around $56 for a 12 foot 1 x 6-inch square edge or grooved board. In addition to those shops, Trex Composite Decking is available at a variety of dealers and smaller hardware across the United States. While they may not be able to ship direct in some cases, they will ship to your local store. With Trex, you’ll need to take a look at Home Depot, Lowes or 84 Lumber if you’re interested in their decking and would like to check it in person. Decking is a little different as it takes up more store space, and composite decking is still considered a specialty product by many retailers. When you’re dealing with things like hardwood and tile, you can generally buy online or pick up what you need locally at a big box retailer. The Trex Enhance Basic price is definitely in the budget-friendly range, but you will get the same 25-year warranty along with all the benefits that come with composite decking. Both Trex Enhance Basic and Naturals come in standard lengths and widths although 2-inch grooved boards are not an option with this particular series. ![]() |
